A Study on Self-awared Complaints of Illness among the City Built Apartment¢¥s Residents in Seoul

Abstract
This study was conducted to carried out the incidence of self-awared complaints of illness for 2,000 residents (450 households) of an apartment during period of August 23 to September 23, 1976.
The results of this study are summerized as follows:
1) The total member of spells on self-awared complaints of illness among 2,000 residents was 1,131 during a month period. The mean per person was 0.5.
2) Among the total member of 1.131 spells headache was 11.3% (128 spells) as the first rank and as the second rank back pain was 8.4% (95 spells).
3) The average member of the self-awared complaints of illness for a household was approximately 2.5 spells per month.
4) Among 2,000 residents, the complaints on C.N.S. and psychological problems hold the first rank as 172 persons (8.6%) and the next rank was G.I troubles and the skeletal system problems as 108 persons (5.4%).
5) In the age group of 40¡­49 in female, (70.4% of the group members (69 persons out of 98) possessed the complaints of illness and 68.0% (70 persons out of 103) of the age group of over 50 years in female also showed complaints of illness at the second rank.
6) Among the group of out-of-job, 61.1% of them had the complaints of illness and 50.0% of the house-wives group also showed the complaints of illness.
7) In educational level, 42.5% of the primary school education group espressed complaints of illness and 40.0% of the college or university education group also expressed the complaints of illness.
8) Among the group of less than 50,000 won in an average monthly income, 50.3% of them showed the complaints of illness.
9) The ways and means of solving the problems of self-awared complaints of illness 41.9% of the total used the drugstore, 24.9% had no treatment at all, 14.2% visited hospitals or clinics, 11.5% visited other facilities such as herb-medicine clinic etc. and 7.5% utilized health center clinics.
